Today, Alex Salmond came up with his biggest clanger to date: Scottish troops will not be helping British troops (England, Wales, Northern Irish) in operations, if he has his way.

However, anyone with at least 2 seconds of a military background, or any common sense will be asking him several questions on this:

1) What happens to Scottish troops who are in English regiments? (Do the Scottish troops not go to war with their friends and colleagues?)

2) What happens to English troops in Scottish regiments? (Do the English troops put their feet up with Scottish troops?)

Well, I can tell you for a fact (from experience), I have never and doubt I will ever meet a Scottish soldier who wouldn’t have pride fighting along side his fellow British troops.

Alex Salmond, thank you once again for showing us all, one more time, that you sir, are an idiot!

Oh Mars, who created this awful marketing campaign for you? Was it a chap in a tweed jacket, but with an overall smart-casual look? Not mentioning any marketing & advertising agnecy bosses *ahem*.

Quite a good idea, but completely the wrong way around, surely? Then oh wait… that would be an advertising standards issue… ok, scrub that – it was a completely naff idea. Shame, I love the brand, so I hope it continues to succeed. Please don’t leave me with just party rings to eat.

Wtf. As marketing and advertising is my passion, I thought I’d delve deeper in to Snickers UK advertising on social networks. They’re also in the midst of launching an advert (http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=576978036886)… with Joan Collins, FML! Yeah, it’s also gone down as a led balloon with the 277,262 people who ‘Like’ the brand on Facebook… the video has been live for 24hrs and only 12 people ‘Like’ the video, 11 shares and 7 comments. :-S

I just don’t get it – Mr Justice Anthony Hart states that, “this was not enough to prove he was part of the murder plot.”… and what was “this” you ask? Found in the partially burnt-out getaway car was small amount of DNA from IRA scum, Colin Duffy. DNA found on a belt buckle and latex glove… you know… the type of gloves used by murderers to withhold DNA, fingerprints and other evidence from a crime scene.

So, people with an open mind will be reading this and probably thinking, “but maybe he was framed?” – “Maybe someone (in the police force?) had placed Colin Duffy’s DNA at the crime scene?” Sure… oh and this is exactly what the scum bag is stating – someone must of placed his DNA at the scene. Why don’t I believe this?

A) If you’re going to frame him, I’m sure you’d do a better job of it, ie, irrefutable DNA evidence – not just an extremely small amount that could be argued in court.

B) Why isn’t Colin Duffy angry? Why isn’t he trying to seek justice for the men or women that tried to place him at this scene of the murder?

Why doesn’t HE have to PROVE his DNA was planted?!?

Something just doesn’t add up there.

But, just in case you are still not convinced and unaware of Colin Duffy’s full IRA scum past, how will this do for changing your mind:

In 20 years, Scum Duffy has been freed 3 times from charges or murder. Yes, he has murdered in the past on more than 1 occasion.

Ordinary hard working people, if extremely unlucky could have to face allegations of murder on 1 occasion… but getting off of murder on 3 occasions within 20 years? No, I’m sorry, but that just does not happen – Colin Duffy is a murdered and the sooner someone puts him down, the better.

My heart doesn’t bleed for the directors of Megaupload – they made a huge amount of money (millions!) via other people true hard work. Same goes for the 24 year old “kid” (as Alki David puts it) that is looking at being extradited to the US to face certain imprisonment for online piracy. Again, does my heart bleed? No. Sure, being a UK resident, never stepping foot on US soil and not having his website hosted in the US, I think it’s harsh he could find extradition, however, he did make 6 figure sums of money from this.

Anyway, I digress - so on to the main point…

When I looked at the State of Justice notice image slapped on the MegaUpload.com website, I thought I’d check to see where it was being hosted. Guess where? It’s on Amazon’s (Cloud) web services (http://1.2.3.12/bmi/megaupload.com.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/banner.jpg)! What’s so ironic about this? This Amazon service quite blatantly hosts huge amounts of pirated material in many shapes and forms.

So, cutting a long story short – while the idea of cutting down on piracy is great, the people whom tried to create SOPA (politicians) blatantly haven’t got a clue in what they are doing and this boys and girls is exactly why the likes of Wikipedia, Google and Facebook are against SOPA - fundamentally great, technically flawed.

The positives?

After just finding out about this new product today and noticing the concept being quite similar to that of SignPoster.com (errmmm, but not) I thought I’d give the site a quick spin and see what it had to offer. Off the bat, I’m mildly impressed. Some great locations countrywide and I can see how this will be of great benefit to many companies out there (especially small/medium) size – I think the taxi biz, local cinemas could do something great/viral/quirky with this. (1 advert for 6 months, just £500)!

The negatives?

1. As a consumer (and someone who eats/sleeps/drinks marketing), I recently noticed one of these advertising spots in my local petrol station and couldn’t help but notice how freaking high up on a pole, next to the counter it was – probably in the correct field of vision for Michael Jordan (yeah, I’m not up to date with basketball players) but for everyone else, I couldn’t help but feel it was a bit too far out of reach… afterall, I only went in to pay for my fuel – in and out as fast as possible. From a geek perspective however, couldn’t help but think, “NOICEEEE!”. Yep. I like flashy electric things – I am that proverbial fly caught by the bright blue ligh *ZAP*

2. Now, back with my marketing head on – I was loving the concept up until the template of the design. Eh, you have to use their templates. So basically, a border with some imagery down the site. So, for Fancy Dress Outfitters – best one to pick was the clown template under the ‘retail’ templates. Any other options? Nope. Zilcho. Nadda. You can only add text such as company name, telephone, web address and maybe a slogan… I can’t rememeber… I was disheartened and aborted when I realised I couldn’t have creative input. But, from their point of view, I can understand why – could you imagine some of the gastly creatives that could be submitted? So, this way, it keeps things uniformal.. hmmm… regimental… and… oh dear, doesn’t that weaken your advert, when it blends in so much with everyone elses? (Question, not a statement).

So, my conclusions?

Great for local businesses and at a snip of 1 ad placement for 6 months at £500 I think it is MORE than worthwhile doing (maybe, possibly… most definately). However, if you have a more national brand and a bit more money, try Amscreen’s partner; http://www.digicomoutofhome.com/
